Michelle Williams Channels Marilyn Monroe on and off Screen

Michelle WilliamsMichelle Williams dazzles in Dior

It's official: Michelle Williams is no longer Miss Prim. After seasons of demure dresses, the star of My Week with Marilyn revealed some decidedly Monroe-esque cleavage in a dazzling Dior gown at the New York Film Festival afterparty for her new film. The actress tackles the daunting role of the iconic sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe, alongside Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi and Harry Potter star Emma Watson. My Week with Marilyn hits theatres on Nov. 4.

Michelle also wore Dior at last year's NYFF screening of Blue Valentine, a role that earned her an Oscar nomination. Will this be the year she gets more than just a nomination?

PHOTOS: Michelle Williams: Fashion Through the Years

Critics are already raving over the film and her delicately introspective interpretation of the real woman inside the silver screen star, who struggled with insecurity, men, alcohol and drugs until her death from an overdose in 1962. The film is certainly enviably timed for a high profile since next year is the 50th anniversary of Monroe’s mysterious death. Talk about a built in Oscar awareness campaign. And her image is already experiencing a cultural renewal.

FILM REVIEW: My Week With Marilyn

For starters, there's the October cover of Vogue which features Michelle Williams photographed by Annie Leibovitz. Then there's a book "Intimate Exposures" by Susan Bernard which features unpublished photos by her father, Bruno Bernard, the photog behind that iconic upskirt on the subway grate shot. And a new NBC series Smash, about a Monroe-themed Broadway musical, will air in February.

VIDEO: 'My Week With Marilyn': Michelle Williams Takes on Monroe

Marilyn will also invade the retail marketplace. The Authentic Brands Group recently acquired the rights to Monroe’s likeness, image, estate and several photographic portfolios, including Bernard’s.They also plan upscale Marilyn Monroe lines of Nova Wines, Dreamwear lingerie, even Monroe merch for a skateboard company called Alien Workshop. The company has also licensed the new Christian Dior ad campaign and the commercial starring Charlize Theron — who bumps into Monroe in a dressing room — that first aired during the primetime Emmys.

We're gonna go out a limb and predict that 2012 will also be a very good year for Marilyn impersonators.

Thomas Jefferson Do not bite at the bait of pleasure till you know there is no hook beneath it. Thomas JeffersonEnlighten the people, generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like spirits at the dawn of day. Thomas JeffersonEvery citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state. Thomas JeffersonHonesty is the first chapter of the book of wisdom. Thomas JeffersonI believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Thomas JeffersonI cannot live without books. Thomas JeffersonI do not take a single newspaper, nor read one a month, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it. Thomas Jefferson I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. Thomas JeffersonIn matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. Thomas JeffersonIt is neither wealth nor splendor, but tranquility and occupation which give happiness. Thomas JeffersonNever fear the want of business. A man who qualifies himself well for his calling, never fails of employment. Thomas JeffersonNever spend your money before you have it. Thomas Jefferson Never trouble another for what you can do for yourself. Thomas JeffersonNo instance exists of a person's writing two languages perfectly. That will always appear to be his native language which was most familiar to him in his youth. Thomas JeffersonNothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances. Thomas JeffersonSay nothing of my religion. It is known to God and myself alone. Its evidence before the world is to be sought in my life: if it has been honest and dutiful to society the religion which has regulated it cannot be a bad one. Thomas Jefferson Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear. Thomas Jefferson The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers. Thomas Jefferson The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive. Thomas JeffersonThe will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object. Thomas JeffersonWalking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far. Thomas Jefferson We confide in our strength, without boasting of it; we respect that of others, without fearing it. Thomas JeffersonWe in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate. Thomas JeffersonI believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs. Thomas Jefferson, (Attributed) I would rather be exposed to the inconveniencies attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it. Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Archibald Stuart, December 23, 1791 I have the consolation of having added nothing to my private fortune during my public service, and of retiring with hands clean as they are empty. Thomas Jefferson, letter to Count Diodati, 1807No government ought to be without censors & where the press is free, no one ever will. Thomas Jefferson, letter to George Washington, September 9, 1792Health is worth more than learning. Thomas Jefferson, letter to his cousin John Garland Jefferson, June 11, 1790 If our house be on fire, without inquiring whether it was fired from within or without, we must try to extinguish it. Rachel Zoe and Baby Skyler Do All White at the LA Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

Rachel Zoe Baby Jamie King - P 2011Rachel Zoe, baby Skyler and Jaime King at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

Super stylist and reality TV (The Rachel Zoe Project) star Rachel Zoe brought her 7-month old baby boy Skyler Morrison Berman to Paris with her last week. But she didn’t lug the little lad to the Spring 2012 runway shows. However, she did take her best-dressed baby to the 2nd Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Sunday, Oct 9

Skyler and Zoe looked perfectly coordinated in white, the new trend from the Spring 2012 shows as seen on the Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, and other designers' runways.

Zoe wore her usual flowing white gown while Skyler sported white leather driving mocassins on Sunday. Before he was born, Zoe admitted that she’d been a bit disappointed (she says she cried for a week)  that she wasn’t having girl. But it looks like she’s making the VERY best of things, dressing her baby boy in countless designer duds.

PHOTOS: Famous Faces at the Paris Spring 2012 Fashion Shows

She told Life & Style  "I'm so obsessed with baby clothes right now. Skyler wears Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Missoni, Armani, Bonpoint and shoes by Bottega Veneta, Hermès and Casadei. I'm going to say his shoe collection is pretty major."

Especially when you consider that the little dude isn’t even walking yet.

Sklyer also has a Louis Vuitton diaper bag. Well, Rachel does. Her new line is available exclusively at Neiman Marcus. And she’s planning .. wait for it.. a baby boys clothing line.

Hope this kid gets his modeling day rate.

"It's incredible to see how he pulled out of it the way he did," she tells the magazine. "Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know? I really like the music he's putting out. I'm a fan of his stuff. I've always been a fan."

But, she admits that it took awhile for her to feel like that. "Obviously, I had some resentment toward him for a while, for obvious reasons," she reveals. "But I've put that behind me. It was taking up too much of my time. It was too much anger."

As for having a reputation for pushing the envelope while onstage, the singer says "At the end of a concert, I don't feel like I've been this sexy thing. Really, I don't even think about it."

'Mad Men' Actor Debuts Design Book

Mad Men Design Book Bryan Batt P

Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant had numerous book signings and parties when she put out her style fashion guide last year. Now comes another Mad Men book – but it’s not about fashion.

PHOTOS: Emmy Winners 2011: 'Mad Men,' 'Modern Family,' Julianna Margulies and Kyle Chandler

Bryan Batt, the actor who played Salvatore Romano in early episodes – he was an ad man for Stirling Cooper, who became a commercial director who eventually gets fired – is releasing a book with Random House called Big, Easy Style.

PHOTOS: Fall's Best Dressed TV Characters

Turns out the New Orleans native owns a gift and home accessories shop in the Big Easy called Hazlenut with his partner of 22 years Tom Cianfichi. The store has been featured in the New York Times, House Beautiful, Food and Wine and Town and Country. So this is not just a hobby for Batt, who’s obviously a new hybrid -  actor/decorator.

This Saturday night, October 15, Mad Men star Christina Hendricks and her husband Geoffrey Arend ((500) Days of Summer) are hosting a party for Batt and the book at Brooks Brothers in Beverly Hills, and we imagine some cast members of MM will turn up, as they are shooting now.

Lois McMaster Bujold, "Barrayar", 1991But pain... seems to me an insufficient reason not to embrace life. Being dead is quite painless. Pain, like time, is going to come on regardless. Don't go through life, grow through life.
Eric Butterworth

Evil, and evil spirits, devils and devil possession, are the outgrowth of man's inadequate consciousness of God. We must avoid thinking of evil as a thing in itself - a force that works against man or, against God, if you will.
Eric Butterworth

Fundamentalists believe Jesus was God becoming man. I believe that Jesus was man becoming God.
Eric Butterworth

God can only do for you what He can do through you.
Eric Butterworth

Nothing stops the man who desires to achieve. Every obstacle is simply a course to develop his achievement muscle. It's a strengthening of his powers of accomplishment.
Eric Butterworth

One of the best things to do sometimes is simply to be.
Eric Butterworth

Our job is not to set things right but to see them right.

Prosperity is a way of living and thinking, and not just money or things. Poverty is a way of living and thinking, and not just a lack of money or things.
Eric Butterworth

The one thing that a fish can never find is water; and the one thing that man can never find is God.
Eric Butterworth

We don't change what we are, we change what we think what we are.
Eric Butterworth

Where you are in consciousness has everything to do with what you see in experience.

A friend is one before whom I may think aloud. Ralph Waldo EmersonA hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer. Ralph Waldo Emerson A man of genius is privileged only as far as he is genius. His dullness is as insupportable as any other dullness. Ralph Waldo EmersonAll I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen. Ralph Waldo EmersonAll our progress is an unfolding, like a vegetable bud. You have first an instinct, then an opinion, then a knowledge as the plant has root, bud, and fruit. Trust the instinct to the end, though you can render no reason. Ralph Waldo EmersonAs we grow old?the beauty steals inward. Ralph Waldo Emerson Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old. Ralph Waldo EmersonBeware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Ralph Waldo Emerson Character is higher than intellect... A great soul will be strong to live, as well as to think. Ralph Waldo EmersonChildren are all foreigners. Ralph Waldo Emerson Colleges hate geniuses, just as convents hate saints. Ralph Waldo EmersonDon't be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. Ralph Waldo Emerson Don't waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good. Ralph Waldo EmersonEvery great and commanding moment in the annals of the world is the triumph of some enthusiasm. Ralph Waldo EmersonEvery hero becomes a bore at last. Ralph Waldo Emerson Every sweet has its sour; every evil its good. Ralph Waldo Emerson Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Ralph Waldo EmersonGive all to love; obey thy heart. Ralph Waldo EmersonGod enters by a private door into every individual. Ralph Waldo EmersonHe has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear. Ralph Waldo EmersonI awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new. Ralph Waldo EmersonI hate quotations. Tell me what you know. Ralph Waldo EmersonI pack my trunk, embrace my friends, embark on the sea, and at last wake up in Naples, and there beside me is the Stern Fact, the Sad Self, unrelenting, identical, that I fled from. Nancy Shevell, Kayne West, Hailee Steinfeld are Paris Spring Fashion Front Row Faces

Hailee Steinfeld Miu Miu Paris P 2011Hailee Steinfeld attends Miu Miu's Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2012 Show

Celebrities at fashion shows are (yawn) nothing new. Designers have been paying beaucoup bucks for celebs to sit pretty in the front rows of their runway presentations for decades. But it's always interesting to see who comes to support whom, be it their family, friends and/or business associates.

PHOTOS: The Famous Faces at the Paris Spring 2012 Fashion Shows

For instance, Nancy Shevell and Paul McCartney hit his daughter Stella McCartney’s Paris Spring 2012 show last week. McCartney's show opened with several classic white dresses, clearly a portent of the wedding frock she designed that was worn by Shevell to her wedding on Oct 9. McCartney’s daughter also did the bridesmaids dresses and was in charge of the vegan food served at their wedding reception too.

And we would love to have been a fly on a front row chair to hear what Nicole Richie (who has a clothing line now) and her former stylist Rachel Zoe (who also has her own clothing line) had to say to each other.at the Louis Vuitton show (rumored to be Marc Jacob's dry run for the Dior head designer post). They've probably mended fences or at least try to look like they have.

Other celeb/designer alliances: Oscar-nominated True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld hit the Miu Miu Paris show because she's now the well-paid contracted face of the line and appears in their ads. Liv Tyler turned up at Givenchy's  show wearing a blouse with a praying mantis (or some kind of bizarre insect) print over an asymmetrical skirt. Why? Liv is the face of Givenchy’s fragrance Very Irresistible. And that hefty Givenchy paycheck must also be irresistible. Kanye West, whose clothing line Dw Paris debut got less than stellar reviews, came to Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy show because Tisci did the artwork for Jay-Z and Kanye's Watch the Line album. Oh, and Kanye also got to hang out with models Naomi Campbell and Chanel Iman.

Click on the Famous Folks at Fashion Shows gallery to see more celebs including Twiggy, Olivia Wilde, Kylie Minoque, Abbie Cornish, Uma Thurman, Clemence Poesy, a very shy (not) Jared Leto, and Salma Hayek, whose wedding vows to French fashion tycoon Francois Pinault must have included a promise to love, honor and wear his designers’ clothing.

Sir Paul McCartney, Nancy ShevellFrom the bride's dress (designed by Stella McCartney) to the guests in attendance, find out more details of the Beatles' nuptials.

Paul McCartney married for the third time in London on Sunday.

The Beatle, 69, said "I Do" to Nancy Shevell, 51, a New Yorker who sits on the Metropolitan Transit Authority's board.

Here are a few things you may not know about the couple’s wedding:

1. They were greeted by hundreds of fans and photographers ahead of their London ceremony, held at Old Marylebone Town Hall. There was a lot of speculation they would wed there after photographers snapped pictures of catering equipment being taken inside earlier.  About 30 guests attended, including Beatles' bandmate Ringo Starr and The Views' Barbara Walters, who reportedly set up the couple on their first date. She is Shevell's second cousin.

2. McCartney's daughter, Stella McCartney, designed the newlyweds' outfits for the day. McCartney opted for a simple dark suit and silver-pewter tie, while Shevell donned a classic long-sleeved, cocktail-length white dress with a flower tucked into her hair.

3. McCartney's daughter, Beatrice, (with his second wife, Heather Mills), served as flower girl for the ceremony.

4. McCartney and Shevell went public with their relationship in 2007, around the time his divorce from Mills ended. According to reports, McCartney and Mills' acrimonious split resulted with McCartney paying her $48.6 million. McCartney was wed to his first wife, Linda, for nearly 30 years, until she died of breast cancer in 1998.

5. Shevell's first marriage was to attorney Bruce Blakeman, who put in an unsuccessful bid for New York's Republican Senate seat in 2010. They have a 19-year-old son, Arlen. "I wish Nancy and Paul well, and that’s it,” Blakeman  told the New York Observer. “Nancy’s a great mother, and Paul treats my son very nicely.”

A friend is a gift you give yourself. Robert Louis StevensonIf your morals make you dreary, depend on it , they are wrong. Robert Louis Stevenson It is not much for its beauty that makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanates from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit. Robert Louis StevensonIt is perhaps a more fortunate destiny to have a taste for collecting shells than to be born a millionaire. Robert Louis StevensonKeep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others. Robert Louis Stevenson Perpetual devotion to what a man calls his business, is only to be sustained by perpetual neglect of many other things. Robert Louis StevensonPolitics is perhaps the only profession for which no preparation is thought necessary. Robert Louis Stevenson The cruelest lies are often told in silence. Robert Louis Stevenson The most beautiful adventures are not those we go to seek. Robert Louis StevensonThere is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy. Robert Louis Stevenson To know what you prefer instead of humbly saying Amen to what the world tells you you ought to prefer, is to have kept your soul alive. Robert Louis Stevenson To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive. Robert Louis Stevenson You cannot run away from a weakness; you must sometimes fight it out or perish. And if that be so, why not now, and where you stand? Robert Louis StevensonBooks are good enough in their own way, but they are a mighty bloodless substitute for life. Robert Louis Stevenson, An Apology for Idlers, 1874 There is no duty we so much underrate as the as the duty of being happy. Robert Louis Stevenson, An Apology for Idlers, 1874 Every one lives by selling something, whatever be his right to it. Robert Louis Stevenson, Beggars, 1903 To hold the same views at forty as we did at twenty is to have been stupefied for a score of years, and take rank, not as a prophet, but as an unteachable brat, well birched and none the wiser. Elisabetta Canalis: From Free $20,000 Couture Dresses to Buying $39 Garments Off the Rack

Elisabetta Canalis George Clooney Armani Show - P

All the while she was George Clooney’s girlfriend, Italian TV host Elisabetta Canalis enjoyed certain privileges -- trickle-down fame, access and, of course, free clothes.

And not just any clothes. Because Clooney is a longtime friend and wearer of Giorgio Armani, wearing Armani tuxes to the Oscars and Armani suits on almost all of his red carpet appearances -- Canalis was also dressed by the House of Armani.

PHOTOS: 'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13: Rehearsals

When she accompanied Clooney to awards shows and movie premier, she wore Armani gowns, cocktail dresses, even Armani Prive gowns -- which are couture and would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $20,000 and up.

Even the cocktail dresses start at three grand, and a ready-to-wear gown could hover around $6,000 or more.

Canalis was even flown to Armani fashion shows in Milan with Clooney and dressed in chic Armani suits (value: about three to four grand) that mirrored his.

PHOTOS: 'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 Cast Official Photos

And if you think the good people at Armani were going to ask Canalis for the clothes back, you don’t know what the name "George Clooney" means to a big Italian brand like this.

This week, the recently booted Dancing With the Stars competitor was spotted in West Hollywood, shopping at the A/X Armani Exchange store in Sunset Plaza. For those who don’t know, A/X is Armani’s lowest-priced line, selling casual weekend clothes to a mostly younger customer.

Canalis picked up a faux leather mini dress for $98 and a graphic wrap cardigan for $39. In the past, she probably would toss items like that out of a giftbag on the way home. It pays to be an A-list girlfriend -- in more ways than one!

Now we wonder: Is Armani going to dress Clooney's new girlfriend Stacy Keibler in couture?
