'Wizard of Oz' Slippers Expected to Fetch at Least $2 Million at Auction

Wizard of Oz Dorothy Red Slippers - P 2011The shoes are one of the four pairs believed to have been worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 film.

A pair of "ruby slippers" believed to have been worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz is expected to fetch at least $2 million at auction in December.

The shoes are one of four sets that were created for the actress for the 1939 film. They are marked "#7 July Garland," have leather soles painted red and are described as in mint condition but with light scuffs on the soles, notes Reuters.

The shoes are part of a Hollywood memorabilia collection being held by California's Profiles in History auction house. Owner Joe Maddalena told Reuters he expects bids on the shoes from around the globe, "This is the most important film prop in the world. There is nothing more famous. They are one of the greatest pieces of pop culture in existence."

Garland had four pairs of red slippers duing the filming of Oz: one is on exhibit at the Smithsonian; another is owned by a private collector; and a third was stolen from the Judy Garland museum in Minnesota.

The "crystal ball" used by the Wicked Witch of the West in Oz is also being auctioned by Profiles in History. It is expected to generate between $40,000 and $60,000.

And in yet another auction -- this one of Debbie Reynolds' memorabilia collection -- Garland’s original blue and white gingham test dress with puff-sleeved white blouse from the first two weeks of Oz filming, plus the matching ruby slippers in the “Arabian test” pattern are up for sale.

How Disney is Committed to Being an Environmental Leader (Q&A)

Beth Stevens Headshot - P 2011The entertainment company will be recognized with the Jane Goodall Institute Environmental Leadership Award on Saturday.

The Walt Disney Company will be honored by the Jane Goodall Institute with an award for corporate social responsibility. The presentation will be part of the wildlife conservation organization’s 2011 Global Leadership Awards evening, to be held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

Dave Matthews, recognized for his activism in media and entertainment, is among the other award recipients. The singer will give a short solo performance at the 7:30 pm event, and Dr. Jane Goodall, the world-renowned primatologist, will speak.

The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Dr. Beth Stevens, the company’s senior vice president, environmental affairs, about Disney’s ongoing efforts in the area. The projects range from funding such organizations as Save the Elephants and International Rhino Foundation to planting nearly 3 million trees in Brazil through donated proceeds from first-week tickets sale of Disneynature’s film, Earth, Oceans and African Cats.

The Hollywood Reporter: How deep is Disney’s commitment to the environment?

Dr. Beth Stevens: I think this is first a recognition of the legacy that the Walt Disney Company has had really all the way back to Walt Disney himself. It all started with the True-Life Adventures, the first nature documentaries back in the 1950s. Now we have Disneynature and we’ve had our films Earth and Oceans and African Cats. Those have been wonderful movies for telling the stories of nature.

THR: Have you directly supported the Jane Goodall Institute?

Stevens: Yes, over the years we have made some direct grant. In terms of helping animals, our Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has been in place since 1995 and has given more than $17 million that help endangered species and the communities that live close by. For instance, we’re involved in a project in the Congo with gorilla rehabilitation, which is called the Grace Center.

THR: What about reducing the company’s environmental footprint?

Stevens: We announced some pretty major goals a couple of years ago on how we are going to reduce emissions, electricity use, waste and water use. We’re making progress in all of those areas.

THR: Are you going to be able to meet your goals? You announced that want to reach zero-net direct greenhouse gas emissions and to reach 50 percent of that by 2012.

Stevens: We will get there by reducing our use of fuels, looking for alternatives and offsetting the fuels we do burn. We have formed something called the Climate Solution Fund. We’ve already invested over $15 million in forestry projects around the world.

THR: How are you getting your employees involved?

Stevens: We have something in place called the Green Standard that is meant to apply to all of our employees no matter what part of the company they work in, whether it’s recycling or using reusable mugs and cups and double-sided printings and turning lights off. All of these things sound basic but they all ad up. On the movie side of the business, for all of our live action films, we have a position called Environmental Steward who is on each film working to reduce the imprint of those productions.

...the safest course is to do nothing against one's conscience. With this secret, we can enjoy life and have no fear from death. VoltaireA witty saying proves nothing. Voltaire All sects are different, because they come from men; morality is everywhere the same, because it comes from God. Voltaire Animals have these advantages over man: they never hear the clock strike, they die without any idea of death, they have no theologians to instruct them, their last moments are not disturbed by unwelcome and unpleasant ceremonies, their funerals cost them nothing, and no one starts lawsuits over their wills. VoltaireAnything too stupid to be said is sung. VoltaireAppreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well. Robin Williams and son Zak Debut Online Art Exhibit

Zak and Robin Williams Art - P 2011Eko Nugroho, "We Are Not Related," 2011 (Image courtesy of Lombard-Freid Projects and the artist)The actor and his gallerist son are today unveiling an art show looking at war and politics

Robin Williams has become a curator. New art website Paddle8 has partnered with the actor and his son, Zak Williams, co-founder of NYC’s Mallick Williams & Co gallery, to launch an online gallery exhibit called Taking Sides. The father and son selected 17 pieces that look at how contemporary artists address the topics of war, violence, authority and politics in their work.

STORY: TIm Burton's Star-Studded Museum Retrospective Opens in LA

Why war themes? “My father and I share a deep love for military history. We’re pretty nerdy about this type of stuff. He reads books on military strategy. It’s something we enjoy connecting on,” says Zak Williams, 28, a Columbia Business School MBA student who founded his art gallery in 2010 with his wife Alex Mallick, who formerly worked for a hedge fund. Robin Williams is also a frequent entertainer for the USO and has made numerous trips to Iraq and Afghanistan.

STORY: L.A.'s Must-See Art Shows: Schwarzenegger as God and Hollywood Trophy Wives

The show though is far from a literal look at war. It includes voices from around the globe, including Iraq, Iran, Israel, China, Pakistan, Great Britain, Canada and the United States. The pieces, which range from $2,500-$50,000, include works by such established names as Jenny Holzer and Aaron Young and up-and-coming artists.

They include Trevor Paglen, who does long-exposure photography of military installations, and Ori Gersht. “He explodes vases and bouquets and then captures them in a moment,” says Zak Williams.

“This exhibition is a way to examine the way contemporary artists consider our current understanding of war as it has been packaged and marketed through meditation of pop culture and mass media,” said Robin Williams in a statement.

Robin Williams not only collects contemporary art but also military memorabilia. “He has samurai swords and Russian machine guns and sniper rifles and anti-tank rifles,” says Zak Williams. “It’s all sort of interesting stuff. Lots of camo stuff and swords, daggers, pistols, all sorts of figurines and emblems. He keeps them in what I call the war room, it’s about the size of a midsize bedroom.”

The innovatively designed Paddle8 website launched in May of this year. It works directly with galleries and sells the pieces by consignment. The curators are paid a consulting fee but do not “partake in the profit-sharing,” says Zak Williams. The exhibition continues until October 25.

Paddle8, which requires users to apply for membership, is one of a number of online art commerce sites that have launched this year, including Blacklots and Art.sy.  “What distinguishes us is that we are not an auction site. We’re a curatorial platform. If you are interested in a piece you can communicate with the gallery directly through Paddle8 and all of our sales can be conducted completely online,” says Andrea Hill, managing editor of Paddle8.

Rainer Maria Rilke

A person isn't who they are during the last conversation you had with them - they're who they've been throughout your whole relationship.
Rainer Maria Rilke

All emotions are pure which gather you and lift you up; that emotion is impure which seizes only one side of your being and so distorts you.
Rainer Maria Rilke

All the soarings of my mind begin in my blood.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Believe that with your feelings and your work you are taking part in the greatest; the more strongly you cultivate this belief, the more will reality and the world go forth from it.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.
Rainer Maria Rilke

For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation.
Rainer Maria Rilke

He reproduced himself with so much humble objectivity, with the unquestioning, matter of fact interest of a dog who sees himself in a mirror and thinks: there's another dog.
Rainer Maria Rilke

I have never been aware before how many faces there are. There are quantities of human beings, but there are many more faces, for each person has several.
Rainer Maria Rilke

I hold this to be the highest task for a bond between two people: that each protects the solitude of the other.
Rainer Maria Rilke

I want to be with those who know secret things or else alone.
Rainer Maria Rilke

If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for the Creator, there is no poverty.
Rainer Maria Rilke

It is a tremendous act of violence to begin anything. I am not able to begin. I simply skip what should be the beginning.
Rainer Maria Rilke

It is good to be solitary, for solitude is difficult; that something is difficult must be a reason the more for us to do it.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Let life happen to you. Believe me: life is in the right, always.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Live your questions now, and perhaps even without knowing it, you will live along some distant day into your answers.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Love consists in this, that two solitudes protect and touch and greet each other.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Love is like the measles. The older you get it, the worse the attack.
Rainer Maria Rilke

More belongs to marriage than four legs in a bed.
Rainer Maria Rilke

No great art has ever been made without the artist having known danger.
Rainer Maria Rilke

Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue, a wonderful living side by side can grow, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky.

Ryan Gosling Had 13 Scorpion Jackets For 'Drive' (Video)

Drive Film Still Three - P 2011The star, who told Conan O'Brien he hopes the character will become a Halloween costume, sported a distinctive white satin bomber for most of the movie.

Ryan Gosling had his reasons for making his violent homage to John Hughes' Pretty in Pink, Drive... namely that he'd always wanted to be in a John Hughes movie with a "head smashing."

PHOTOS: Ryan Gosling: Career In Pictures

The actor was very involved in the making of the film, serving as its star, an executive producer and also got to choose director Nicolas Winding Refn (though he told Conan O'Brien on his TBS late show that the first meeting did not got well).

STORY: Ryan Gosling in 'Drive': What the Critics Are Saying

On of Drive's most prominent images was a very unique white satin jacket with a scorpion embroidered on the back. According to Gosling, there was a reason for that. "I always wanted to make a character that people would go out for on Halloween and so I'm really crossing my fingers on this one," revealed the actor before he gifted O'Brien with his own, brown version.

The film's costume designer, Erin Benach, recently revealed that the actor was very involved in the jacket's design.

CANNES REVIEW: Drive

"Ryan had been really inspired by these 1950s Korean souvenir jackets," Benach told Grantland. "He had bought one on his own and was wearing it around. ... So we built it piece by piece. We knew the collar had to be able to pop up, we wanted the knit around the wrists and waist to be 100 percent wool as opposed to stretchy nylon. We wanted every element to be perfect. We went through 15 or 20 iterations until we got it right. Which was down to the wire — about an hour before shooting!"

VIDEO: 'Drive': Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan Share Passionate Kiss in an Elevator

Benach also revealed that when all was said and done, there were 13 versions of the fashion piece made for the star during filming.

And, fans of the jacket may not have to wait very long to own their own version. "You just might be able to find them online soon," teased Benach.

The Eat Sheet: L.A.'s Toughest Table to Get Right Now

Michael Voltaggio photographed by Bart Nagel - P 2011Michael Voltaggio's Ink, which just opened last night, is booked solid a month out

Ink restaurant, the hotly anticipated restaurant from tattooed Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio, opened last night, and it's already the hardest reservation in Los Angeles right now.

STORY: The Eat Sheet: Larry Bell Talks About His New Restaurant, Larry's in Venice Beach

Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance and there's not a table in sight between now and the third week of October. "The day online reservations went up, the first 30 days were booked in under an hour," says restaurant spokeswoman Joy LImanon. There are ten seats a night at the bar available on a first-come, first-served walk-in basis.

STORY: The Eat Sheet: Jamie Oliver to Open Restaurant in Los Angeles

Voltaggio, known for his cutting-edge cooking, is serving up such dishes as Young Turnips and Radishes with Coffee-Cardamom Soil, Vadouvan, Frozen Yogurt and Socca, Octopus with Buttered Popcorn, Piquillo Pepper and Spinach, and Apple Creme Caramel with Burnt Wood Ice Cream.

Among the guests at the opening last night were Michael Ovitz (an investor in the restaurant), chefs Nancy Silverton of Mozza and John Sedlar of Rivera and Playa, and former Gourmet magazine editor in chief Ruth Reichl.

Another way to grab a taste of Voltaggio's food is to hit Ink: Sack, his cheap-eats sandwich shop, which opened a few weeks back and is located just a couple doors down. (8360 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood.)

In October, Voltaggio and his brother and fellow Top Chef contestant, Bryan Voltaggio — who owns Volt restaurant in Frederick, Maryland — will publish a cookbook Volt Ink (Weldon Owen, $40).

The Literature Page Showing quotations 1 to 16 of 16 total A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury. John Stuart MillAsk yourself whether you are happy and you cease to be so. John Stuart MillConservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives. John Stuart MillIf mankind minus one were of one opinion, then mankind is no more justified in silencing the one than the one - if he had the power - would be justified in silencing mankind. John Stuart MillIndeed the dictum that truth always triumphs over persecution, is one of those pleasant falsehoods which men repeat after one another till they pass into common places, but which all experience refutes. John Stuart MillNo great improvements in the lot of mankind are possible until a great change takes place in the fundamental constitution of their modes of thought. John Stuart MillOne person with a belief is equal to a force of 99 who have only interests. John Stuart Mill War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. John Stuart Mill Next to selfishness the principal cause which makes life unsatisfactory is want of mental cultivation. John Stuart Mill, Defence of HedonismEveryone who receives the protection of society owes a return for the benefit. John Stuart Mill, On Liberty Over one's mind and over one's body the individual is sovereign. John Stuart Mill, On LibertyThe only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant. John Stuart Mill, On LibertyHe who lets the world, or his own portion of it, choose his plan of life for him, has no need of any other faculty than the ape-like one of imitation. He who chooses his plan for himself, employs all his faculties. He must use observation to see, reasoning and judgment to foresee, activity to gather materials for decision, discrimination to decide, and when he has decided, firmness and self-control to hold to his deliberate decision. John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859No one can be a great thinker who does not recognize that as a thinker it is his first duty to follow his intellect to whatever conclusions it may lead. Truth gains more even by the errors of one who, with due study, and preparation, thinks for himself, than by the true opinions of those who only hold them because they do not suffer themselves to think. John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental or spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest. John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859But society has now fairly got the better of individuality; and the danger which threatens human nature is not the excess, but the deficiency, of personal impulses and preferences. John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, chapter 3, 1859

Boredom is the root of all evil - the despairing refusal to be oneself.
Soren Kierkegaard

Concepts, like individuals, have their histories and are just as incapable of withstanding the ravages of time as are individuals. But in and through all this they retain a kind of homesickness for the scenes of their childhood.
Soren Kierkegaard

Soren Kierkegaard

During the first period of a man's life the greatest danger is not to take the risk.
Soren Kierkegaard

Soren Kierkegaard

God creates out of nothing. Wonderful you say. Yes, to be sure, but he does what is still more wonderful: he makes saints out of sinners.
Soren Kierkegaard

How absurd men are! They never use the liberties they have, they demand those they do not have. They have freedom of thought, they demand freedom of speech.
Soren Kierkegaard

I begin with the principle that all men are bores. Surely no one will prove himself so great a bore as to contradict me in this.
Soren Kierkegaard

I feel as if I were a piece in a game of chess, when my opponent says of it: That piece cannot be moved.
Soren Kierkegaard

I see it all perfectly; there are two possible situations - one can either do this or that. My honest opinion and my friendly advice is this: do it or do not do it - you will regret both.
Soren Kierkegaard

If I am capable of grasping God objectively, I do not believe, but precisely because I cannot do this I must believe.

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone. Henry David ThoreauAny fool can make a rule, and any fool will mind it. Henry David ThoreauAs if you could kill time without injuring eternity. Henry David ThoreauBe true to your work, your word, and your friend. Henry David ThoreauBooks are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. I think that there is nothing, not even crime, more opposed to poetry, to philosophy, ay, to life itself than this incessant business. Henry David ThoreauCultivate the habit of early rising. It is unwise to keep the head long on a level with the feet. Henry David ThoreauDo not be too moral. You may cheat yourself out of much life. Aim above morality. Be not simply good; be good for something. Henry David Thoreau Do not hire a man who does your work for money, but him who does it for love of it. Henry David Thoreau Every man is the builder of a temple called his body. Henry David Thoreau Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler. Henry David Thoreau He enjoys true leisure who has time to improve his soul's estate. Henry David ThoreauHow vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live. Henry David Thoreau However mean your life is, meet it and live it: do not shun it and call it hard names. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Things do not change, we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts. God will see that you do want society. Henry David ThoreauI know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestioned ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor. Henry David Thoreau I once had a sparrow alight upon my shoulder for a moment, while I was hoeing in a village garden, and I felt that I was more distinguished by that circumstance that I should have been by any epaulet I could have worn. Henry David Thoreau I stand in awe of my body. Henry David Thoreau If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. Henry David ThoreauIf you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them. Henry David ThoreauIf you would convince a man that he does wrong, do right. But do not care to convince him. Men will believe what they see. Let them see. Henry David ThoreauIf you would convince a man that he does wrong, do right. Men will believe what they see. Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

A classical work doesn't ever have to be understood entirely. But those who are educated and who are still educating themselves must desire to learn more and more from it.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

A critic is a reader who ruminates. Thus, he should have more than one stomach.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

A definition of poetry can only determine what poetry should be and not what poetry actually was and is; otherwise the most concise formula would be: Poetry is that which at some time and some place was thus named.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

A family can develop only with a loving woman as its center.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

A priest is he who lives solely in the realm of the invisible, for whom all that is visible has only the truth of an allegory.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

A so-called happy marriage corresponds to love as a correct poem to an improvised song.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

About no subject is there less philosophizing than about philosophy.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

All men are somewhat ridiculous and grotesque, just because they are men; and in this respect artists might well be regarded as man multiplied by two. So it is, was, and shall be.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

All the classical genres are now ridiculous in their rigorous purity.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

An aphorism ought to be entirely isolated from the surrounding world like a little work of art and complete in itself like a hedgehog.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

An artist is he for whom the goal and center of life is to form his mind.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Aphorisms are the true form of the universal philosophy.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Art and works of art do not make an artist; sense and enthusiasm and instinct do.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

As the ancient commander addressed his soldiers before battle, so should the moralist speak to men in the struggle of the era.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Beauty is that which is simultaneously attractive and sublime.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Combine the extremes, and you will have the true center.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Considered subjectively, philosophy always begins in the middle, like an epic poem.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Duty is for Kant the One and All. Out of the duty of gratitude, he claims, one has to defend and esteem the ancients; and only out of duty has he become a great man.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Eternal life and the invisible world are only to be sought in God. Only within Him do all spirits dwell. He is an abyss of individuality, the only infinite plenitude.
Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

Every complete man has his genius. True virtue is genius.

'Desperate Housewives' Says Goodbye With a Wisteria Lane Block Party

ABC threw a block party on the Wisteria Lane set at Universal Studios Hollywood on Wednesday to kick off the Desperate Housewives final season, which premieres this Sunday. Lots of familiar faces attended including four of the five leads, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Vanessa Williams and Eva Longoria.

“I love doing parties on The Lane,” Longoria tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Because nobody gets to be here where we film. And it’s such a beautiful street, a beautiful set.”

“I don’t know what they’re going to do with it when we’re gone,” she continues. “I can’t even think of anyone else filming on it. I might cry. It means someone might be living in my house. And so I love that we had this party here tonight to kind of celebrate the beginning of the end.”

Teri Hatcher was noticeably absent from the festivities. According to her publicist, “Teri had a longstanding previous commitment with her daughter. She was sorry to miss the party, but her family comes first.”

The event was a good chance for Brenda Strong, who plays Mary Alice, and whose narrating of the show occurs in a studio, to reconnect with her colleagues.

“I look forward to seeing the people I don’t always get to spend time with,” says Strong, who will be returning on-screen to be part of Season 8’s big mystery. “It’s nice to see the crew and all the people who have been so supportive of us.”

Guests were provided shuttles from the parking garage to the actual Wisteria Lane set. And it was really a nice decision by ABC to throw it there. As the shuttle -- filled with a mix of media, crew, actors, and executives -- ascended up the windy hill road to the set, there was definitely a growing feeling of anticipation among the riders. Those feelings were not for nothing. When the houses of Wisteria Lane began to appear over the hill, several riders let out audible gasps.

After the first view of The Lane -- which has also been used on Leave It To Beaver, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and in the film, Gremlins – guests came up on the red carpet with the step and repeat emblazoned with ABC and the show’s logo and the playful phrase, “Kiss them goodbye.”

Beyond that sat Gaby’s home immediately to the left with its trademark bright yellow exterior, Susan’s much more country kitsch home, and on down the line. Visitors were invited to tour the inside of the houses with one exception: Williams’ character Renee’s home was off-limits, because everything in there is stark white. And Bree’s home was open to the public, but it was just a facade as it housed the restrooms.

The party basically took up the length of The Lane with five sitting areas outfitted with high backed loveseats and tables with the image of one of the housewives hanging on its back wall. In the middle of The Lane sat a generously stocked full bar with large glass vases filled with the show’s trademark red apples.

At the end was a deejay spinning pop music and a dance floor, which fascinated the young stars of the show most, which included the actresses who play Gaby’s kids, Madison De La Garza and Daniella Baltodano; the actors who play Lynette’s kids, eldest twins Max and Charlie CarverJosh Moore, and Darcy Rose Byrnes; as well as Susan’s young son MJ, actor Mason Vale Cotton.

As for food, it was hit and miss with the catered Italian-American comfort food theme, which included pasta, pork and chicken-apple sausages, a widely appreciated mac and cheese dish, a quiche, and a few salad choices. It was the dessert table that shined with small delicate cupcakes, chocolate pieces, and nut-covered nougat.

At about 10 p.m., the deejay called last call and the guests began to shuffle back to the shuttles. We shared ours with Kevin Rahm, who will be reprising his role as Lee on the last season (though he’s currently a regular on Fox’s new fall comedy, I Hate My Teenage Daughter). And right before the shuttle was ready to leave, showrunner Bob Daily -- who’s credited for keeping the series on the rails for several seasons -- jumped on. Rahm and others welcomed him by chanting his name several times. And that seemed like a fitting end to the party as the shuttle descended back down the hill to reality.
