Airbrushed Julia Roberts' L'Oréal U.K. Ad Campaign Banned

Julia RobertsAdvertising watchdog upholds complaints by Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson that images were overly airbrushed.

LONDON -- The U.K.'s advertising Standards Authority has pulled two ads featuring Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington for being overly-airbrushed, according to The Guardian.

Liberal Democrat member of parliament Jo Swinson, who has waged a long-running campaign against "overly perfected and unrealistic images" of women in adverts, lodged complaints with the Advertising Standards Authority about the magazine campaigns for L'Oréal-owned brands Lancôme and Maybelline.

The ASA ruled that both ads breached the advertising standards code for exaggeration and being misleading and banned them from future publication.

L'Oréal's two-page ad featuring Roberts, who is the face of Lancôme, promoted a foundation called Teint Miracle, which it claims creates a "natural light" that emanates from beautiful skin. It was shot by renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino.

The ad for Maybelline featured Turlington promoting a foundation called The Eraser, which is claimed to be an "anti-ageing" product. In the ad, parts of Turlington's face are shown covered by the foundation while other parts are not, in order to show the effects of the product.

Swinson complained that images of both celebrities had been digitally manipulated and were "not representative of the results the product could achieve."

Roberts recently starred with Tom Hanks in  Larry Crowne.

'Captain America's' Chris Evans: 'I Hate This Movie'

Chris Evans He jokes his two-hour workouts were so "relentless," he'd curse himself for taking the role after each one.

Chris Evans hardly survived the four-month training for his Captain America role.

"We did two hours a day, and it was brutal. I usually like working out. Going in sucks, but walking out, you're like, 'I'm glad I did that!' This was different," he tells PopSugar.

REVIEW: Captain America

"I'd walk out and I'd be like, 'I need to vomit. I hate this trainer. I hate this movie. I want to go to sleep for a week.' It was just relentless. I've got a fast metabolism and I lose weight very quickly, so for me to get big, it was just eat a lot," he added. "Working out sucked, eating sucked more. You get to a point where you just can't even look at another piece of chicken. You're just so bloated, but you just have to keep consuming protein, so that was tricky."

Still, he doesn't regret shooting the film.

"The fact is, no matter how long a list you could create of the negatives, the positives trump it," he says. "I make movies… I wear a shield, I get paid a lot of money to run around and play make believe. I'm not in the coal mines. I'm not flipping burgers. Life is great."

He initially turned down the role because he was "apprehensive about the commitment."

"It started out as a nine-picture commitment and it dropped down to six. If all of a sudden my passion changed, if I wanted to write or direct, or leave the career — go live in the mountains, get married, have kids, lead a normal life — you can't," he explains to PopSugar. "And I guess I just wasn't 100 percent positive that my end game was to be a gigantic movie star."

"The second part was just about the lifestyle change. I can still go to a ball game and I can still go to the grocery store and lead a pretty normal life. There's a difference between dealing with [fame] sometimes, dealing with it most of the time, and dealing with it all the time. All the time is something you can't conceptualize until it happens, and once you're there, you can't turn it off. There's no rewind," he adds.

Scientology's Hollywood Real Estate Empire

"I've gotta go; I've gotta go."

It's June 23, and blogger Marty Rathbun and I are wrapping a lengthy telephone interview about the historic Hollywood real estate holdings of the Church of Scientology. We're exchanging end-of-conversation pleasantries when a group of people arrives across the street from his waterfront home in Ingleside on the Bay, Texas, hastening the end of our chat.

"They've got five guys in a golf cart with a picture of my face with a cross-out signal in front of it right now -- across the street right now," the ex-Scientologist shouts, his words tumbling out, quick and disorienting.

"I've gotta go," he repeats with increasing urgency. Then Rathbun hangs up.

Rathbun, a former high-level Scientologist who left the church in 2004, had just returned from the supermarket with his wife, Monique, and was unloading groceries when the golf cart appeared. Five days later, we reconnect, and Monique shows me video of the incident. The golf cart is emblazoned with an image of her husband's head atop the body of a squirrel. In the illustration, Rathbun's smiling face is positioned inside a red circle with a diagonal line through it. Some in the group of five wear matching light-blue T-shirts and black hats that read "Squirrel Busters" in block lettering. One man has a video camera strapped to his head.

On that day, Rathbun explains, he had called the sheriff and waited, eyeing the group -- even recording them with his camcorder. By the time a squad car arrived, the three men and two women were gone.

Rathbun says it wasn't the first time he has been visited by the group, which has said it is making a documentary about Rathbun under the Squirrel Busters Productions banner. (The church denies affiliation with Squirrel Busters, and there is no documentation that shows the group is a unit of the church.) A "squirrel" is a derisive term used by Scientologists to describe a former adherent who has "perverted" the religion.

The group's appearance in front of Rathbun's home during our interview appears to have been merely a coincidence. The conflict between Rathbun and the Squirrel Busters is well-documented; it has been covered by publications including the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and the San Antonio Express-News.

Clearly, writing about the church is not a simple task because many people have strong opinions, even when the topic is seemingly innocuous. The various controversies that follow the organization -- which draws impassioned feelings from members and non-members alike, themselves immersed in their own dramas -- are often interwoven.

And so the reporting of an ostensibly straightforward story about the church's vast real estate portfolio in Hollywood, where it is a major stakeholder and owns properties valued at $400 million, leads to bizarre interviews like the one with Rathbun, which may be just part of the collateral when reporting on Scientology.

                                                                                   ?????

The Church of Scientology owns, by most accounts, more historic buildings in Hollywood than any other entity and is one of the community's biggest property owners. Some of its holdings are obvious: The castle-like Celebrity Centre International on Franklin Avenue and the mammoth blue compound on Sunset Boulevard that houses the organization's West Coast headquarters are veritable Los Angeles icons.

In total, the church owns seven historic Hollywood properties worth about $300 million, part of a Hollywood real estate empire of 26 properties, according to real estate experts. It is a portfolio that began to take shape in the early 1970s under the direction of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and continues to grow. These days, a small group of high-level church staffers based here comprises the organization's real estate team and oversees the assets while planning a global expansion.

Over the years, the church has transformed its Hollywood properties -- which include a former luxury hotel, apartment building, church and hospital -- into facilities that house everything from classrooms and chapels to production space, a health spa and an upscale French restaurant. Most recently, in April, the group closed on a $42 million purchase of the historic but ramshackle 4.5-acre KCET Studios on the edge of Hollywood, a complex that dates to 1912 and was once home to Monogram Pictures and Allied Artists. (The church will use it as a center for its various media endeavors.)

PHOTOS: Scientology's Historic Hollywood Holdings

Despite the controversies, and there are several, the church also has many fans. City officials, preservationists and scholars alike call the church a first-rate caretaker of historic Hollywood. Preservationists including Linda Dishman, executive director of the Los Angeles Conservancy, and city officials including Councilman Tom LaBonge and Ken Bernstein, manager of the Office of Historic Resources, roundly offer praise. "They have provided for positive adaptive-reuse projects in Hollywood, giving new life to many of the Hollywood structures," says Bernstein, "and they have largely preserved the significant historic and architectural features of their Hollywood buildings." Adds Richard Adkins, president of Hollywood Heritage, a preservation group: "They seem to always have the vision of being good stewards and neighbors." The church even has been honored: The California State Legislature has recognized its real estate work, and the Pasadena Historic Preservation Commission has given it an award, as has the Los Angeles Business Journal.

And the companies that work with the church on these dealings are anything but fringe -- they're major players in real estate, including architecture firm Gensler, which is designing the proposed NFL stadium in downtown Los Angeles, and real estate services firm CB Richard Ellis Group, which boasts more than 400 offices in more than 60 countries.

All the while, many in Hollywood remain unaware of the church's efforts. "I don't think people would even know they are real estate holders," says George Abou-Daoud, who owns area eateries including the Mercantile (adjacent to a property owned by a church affiliate housing a museum named Psychiatry: An Industry of Death).

The church maintains or is in the process of rehabilitating other properties in the L.A. area, including a new center in Pasadena and forthcoming projects in Inglewood and Santa Ana. But Hollywood is its focal point. After four decades, the church, founded in 1954 in Los Angeles, has deep roots in the area: It began buying properties under the direction of Hubbard, who saw potential in the blighted, undervalued area and wanted to save neglected buildings. It bought at low prices during the 1970s and '80s, making the group both pioneer and bargain hunter. To this day, the church does not take out mortgages, claiming it relies on donations from parishioners.

But the church's stewardship of its historic buildings is just one part of a long-standing and sometimes edgy relationship with the Hollywood community.

ScientologyFrom L-R: Nancy Cartwright, Danny Masterson, Erika ChristensenNancy Cartwright, Danny Masterson and Erika Christensen praise the Church of Scientology for its stewardship of historic Hollywood real estate.

Nancy Cartwright, co-star of The Simpsons: ''When there is an opportunity to preserve a piece of history, whether through a historic or culturally important building or its artists, I am all for it. I am very proud of the work my church puts into improving and restoring these buildings, and I am happy to be involved with it."

Danny Masterson, co-star of That '70s Show: ''I bought my current house in Hollywood because I am a big fan of architecture from the '20s, '30s and '40s. I love the fact that my church shares the same philosophy I do when it comes to historic restoration of properties."

Erika Christensen,  co-star of Parenthood: ''I grew up attending services at the Celebrity Centre in Hollywood. What the church did with the building is amazing. I was born in Seattle, and I flew up and attended the grand opening of the new Church of Scientology in Seattle last year after the renovations were completed. It was breathtaking aesthetically, and it was something I had looked forward to for a number of years. I am proud and impressed that my church is acquiring and restoring properties for our local churches."

Lucian Freud, Noted Nude Portrait Artist, Dies at 88

Lucian FreudThe grandson of Sigmund Freud and brother of the British television personality Clement Freud suffered from an undisclosed illness.

Lucian Freud, a noted nude portrait artist, died Wednesday night in London. He was 88.

He suffered from a brief, undisclosed illness, his dealer, William Acquavella of Acquavella Galleries, tells the New York Times.

PHOTOS: Hollywood's Notable Deaths

Freud is a grandson of Sigmund Freud and the brother of British television host Clement Freud.

“Freud has generated a life’s worth of genuinely new painting that sits obstinately across the path of those lesser painters who get by on less. He always pressed to extremes, carrying on further than one would think necessary and rarely letting anything go before it became disconcerting," said William Feaver, a British critic who put together a Freud retrospective in the U.K. in 2002.

Lucian Michael Freud was born on Dec. 8, 1922 in Berlin. His father, Ernst, was Sigmund Freud's youngest son. The family fled to London in 1933 once Hitler came into power.

He served time in the Navy in the 1940s.

He was heavily influenced by artist Francis Bacon, who was the subject of one of his most famous works, an oil painted on copper in 1952. They both showed art at the Venice Biennale in 1954, the Times reports.

“Full, saturated colors have an emotional significance that I want to avoid,” he said. "For me the paint is the person.”

New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art displayed a retrospective of his work in 1993.

Lucian Freud: 5 Things to Know

Lucian Freud The noted nude portrait artist – grandson to Sigmund Freud, brother to British TV personality Clement Freud - died in London Wednesday at 88.

Noted nude portrait artist Lucian Freud died in London Wednesday at 88 from an undisclosed illness, confirms his art dealer, William Acquavella of Acquavella Galleries.

Here are a few things you may not know about him.

1. His father, Ernst, was Sigmund Freud's youngest son. His brother is British television personality Clement Freud.

2. He was heavily influenced by artist Francis Bacon, who was the subject of one of his most famous works, an oil painted on copper in 1952. They both showed art at the Venice Biennale in 1954.

3. His work was not popular in the United States until the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington exhibited his art in 1987. He was soon after proclaimed the "greatest living realist painter." The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City displayed a retrospective of his work in 1993.

4. He was born in Berlin in Dec. 8, 1922, but his family fled to London after Hitler came into power in 1933. He didn't excel in school, and considered becoming a horse jockey, the New York Times reports. In 1938, he was expelled from the Bryanston school after dropping his pants on the street on a dare. But he was accepted into the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London because of his notable sculpture of a horse. He later enrolled in the East Anglian School of Drawing -- and there's a rumor that he accidentally started a fire with a discarded cigarette that burned the school to the ground. It has been ruled unlikely.

5. He joined the Merchant Navy in 1941 with hopes of moving to New York City. The convoy ship on which he served only made it to Halifax, Nova Scotia, however. When it returned to Liverpool, he came down with tonsillitis and earned a medical discharge from the military.

HUSH MONEY! MURDER!: The Famed Chateau Elysee

Chateau ElyseeThe Church of Scientology transformed a landmark Hollywood property -- one with an intriguing backstory -- into the Celebrity Centre International.

There's a tale about William Randolph Hearst, a murder on a yacht and hush money that led to the construction of the Chateau Elysee.

That the yarn might not be true illustrates the outsize reputation of the landmark property. Legend has it that Eleanor Ince, widow of film producer Thomas Ince, built the hotel and apartment building with money provided to her by Hearst after he killed her husband in 1924. Hearst is said to have mistakenly shot Thomas Ince while entertaining a slew of stars on his yacht, the Oneida.

Hearst allegedly was aiming for Charlie Chaplin, who was said to have had a dalliance with Hearst's mistress, Marion Davies. The widow's silence reportedly was bought with funds that went toward construction of the building, which hosted the likes of Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The Los Angeles Times initially reported the tale of murder; however, official accounts indicate Thomas Ince died of a heart attack.

The Eat Sheet: How Alain Ducasse Pulled Off the Other Princely Wedding of the Year (Exclusive)

When Prince Albert II married South African Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock at a ceremony in Monaco earlier this month, they couldn't ask just anyone to cater the event, which drew VIP guests, including Karl Lagerfeld, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Roger Moore,  plus thousands of Monegasque citizens cheering on from afar.

So the Prince called on the King … of French cuisine, namely celebrity chef Alain Ducasse, to design his wedding menu. THR’s France correspondent Rebecca Leffler sat down with Ducasse at his Parisian stomping ground the hotel Plaza Athenée where he spilled the (local, organic and sustainable) beans on the royal dinner.

The Hollywood Reporter: How were you chosen out of all of the chefs in France and in Monaco to cook for the royal wedding?

Alain Ducasse: I saw the prince in Paris in February. We both happened to be in town, so we met. When he called me, I secretly hoped it was to talk about the wedding and sure enough, I sat down and he said, "Alain, I’d like to talk to you about my wedding…"

THR: How did you decide what to prepare for the occasion?

Ducasse: I thought about what we could do and what he liked. I said, "Let’s do something simple." He and Charlene wanted to share a part of themselves with their guests. so we decided to use sustainable, local fish and vegetables from their garden -- an extraction of tastes from the Mediterranean sea and land. Charlene likes healthy, sustainable cooking, and the prince is very attached to the protection of marine life and local products, so it was the perfect fit. We had some South African wine to start for Charlene, but other than the champagne and the dessert wine, everything was from the royal couple's garden and from local fishermen. The vegetables were picked that very morning and the fish was so fresh it finished cooking in the bouillon on each and every plate. The meal was 85 percent local fare.

THR: How did you prepare for the main event?

Ducasse: I ate the same menu 10 times the week before the ceremony. I kept tasting it to see how I could make it better -- what other seasoning I could add or how I could adjust the temperatures or tastes.

THR: And did it pay off? Were the royal couple and their 500 guests happy?

Ducasse: Yes. The family was very happy. The evening was intangible -- it's impossible to describe the magic of the feeling in the room. There were several ingredients involved, but it was all about the magic of the moment. It was a cocktail of words, a rare moment, simple and sophisticated. The weather was perfect -- even the wind stopped blowing before the guests sat down for dinner.

THR: And luckily, the meal you prepared was very light, so was everyone able to get up and dance afterwards?

Ducasse: Oh yes. It was incredibly light. At around 3:30 in the morning, we served a buffet and, for the next three hours, everyone ate more. It was a magnificent buffet.

THR: This isn't the first time you’ve cooked for such high-profile guests. You designed the menu for this year's Cannes Film Festival opening night ceremony and the stars dine in your restaurants all over the world. Why do you think you're in such demand?

Ducasse: Because it's simple: Today, food needs to be healthy, local, sustainable and not filled with too much fat, salt or sugar. It should be slow-cooked and seasonal. And that's my vision.

THR: So you're saying that French cuisine can be healthy?

Ducasse: The image foreigners have of French cuisine is fattening and very fancy food. But it’s not true -- French food isn’t just rich. The word "healthy" doesn’t exist in French. We have many, many words, but not that one. To me, healthy means paying close attention to feeding people.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minillo's Wedding: Dress Details Revealed

Nick Lachey Vanessa Minnillo Grammys 2011The couple married last week in a surprise ceremony in the Caribbean.

Nearly a week after Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey tied the knot, details of their big day are leaking, including what the bride wore.

Minnillo, who wed Lachey on Friday on Necker Island, wore a two-piece Monique Lhuillier gown that featured a lace corset embellished with rose and crystal detail, People reported. The skirt was made of silk faille.

STORY: Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo Tie the Knot

Her ensemble also featured a tailored bow belt and floor-length veil made of tulle, along with Swarovski-encrusted Christian Louboutin slingbacks (she switched into a jeweled pair of Havaianas flip-flops later in the evening). She carried a Judith Leiber clutch.

Minnillo also wore a pair of diamond stud earrings given to her by Lachey early on in their relationship and had two friends do her "au naturel" hair and makeup.

The new host of ABC's Wipeout told People that it was initially a struggle finding the right dress.

“I probably had half a dozen fittings, and I was just so lost,” she said. “I finally decided to ask Nick and said, ‘What do you want to see me in when you marry me and I become Mrs. Lachey?‘ I thought I would get some generic guys’ answer but he sat up in bed and told me he loved me with my hair down … and wanted me in something traditional but with a modern flair.”

STORY: 'Wipeout': Vanessa Minnillo Tapped as Co-Host, Renewed for Season 5

The nuptials were a surprise for the 35 friends and family members in attendance. Minnillo told People that guests were only given airline tickets and instructions on what to pack, "Our wedding invitations were in the form of a plane ticket. We told them they were going away and the attire was 'island chic.' It was all very vague."

Lachey and Minnillo met during the making of his 2006 "What's Left of Me" music video. They became engaged this past November and are planning to have children together. Minnillo told People, "For us, this is just a stepping stone to do what we ultimately want and that's to start a family together."

STORY: TLC to Televise Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo Wedding

As previously reported by THR, their wedding will be televised on a TLC special. “We’re lucky to have such passionate and loving fans, and we thought partnering with TLC on this special would be the best way to share the exciting journey we’re on with all the people that support us and our relationship,” the couple said in a joint statement.

This is not the former boy band member’s foray into nuptial-themed reality programming. Lachey’s marriage to Jessica Simpson was chronicled in the 2003 MTV docusoap Newlyweds.

Can Kim Kardashian Win Her Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Against Old Navy? (Analysis)

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is reportedly quite upset over an advertisement for Old Navy (watch below) that she believes intentionally features a look-alike. The socialite and reality TV star, who would probably prefer walking around in the nude to wearing bargain-basement clothing, has filed a lawsuit against the retail chain for unspecified damages.

"I’ve worked hard to support the products I’m personally involved with and that I believe in,” Kardashian says in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “Kim Kardashian is immediately recognizable, and is known for her look and style. Her identity and persona are valuable. When her intellectual property rights are violated, she intends to enforce them,” adds her intellectual property attorney Gary Hecker.

She'll hope to imitate other celebrities who have found success pushing lawsuits against brands using impostors to imply false endorsements.

PHOTOS: Inside Kardashian Inc.

Among the lawsuits over the years: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis once got an injunction to prevent Christian Dior from from featuring a look-alike in a print advertisement; Bette Midler once sued Ford Motors into submission for using a sound-alike to voice a television commercial touting one of its automobiles. And Vanna White emerged semi-triumphant against Samsung Electronics for using a look-alike in a television commercial.

In that last case, the look-alike was a robot in a blond whig who was hosting a futuristic game show. White claimed in the lawsuit that her identity had been misappropriated to confuse the public into believing she was endorsing a tech product.

The dispute went all the way up to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which noted that if advertisers were given nine methods of avoiding a publicity rights claim, the list of no-no's "merely challenges the clever advertising strategist to come up with the tenth."

Unfortunately, judicial reluctance to create bright-line boundaries has encouraged celebrities to file all sorts of claims over the years, including over, among other things, imitated golf swings, impersonated sports vehicles, and lookalike furniture.

Kardashian's lawsuit doesn't go quite that far.

Instead, it's a basic lawsuit that we imagine would allege false advertising and the violation of her publicity rights and trademark. What matters most here is whether consumers will be shown to be confused by Old Navy's purported switcheroo, and if so, whether, as the judge in the Midler lawsuit put it, "the defendants...for their own profit in selling their product did appropriate part of her identity" by using a look-alike.

It remains to be seen whether the connection between Kardashian's likeness and the one in Old Navy's print advertisment can be easily made, and whether or not Kardashian's lawyers can turn up any documents in discovery that show Old Navy's clever advertising strategist thought about Kardashian when conceiving the advertisement. Some celebrities have struggled here. See Lindsay Lohan's lawsuit against eTrade over a "milkaholic" baby named Lindsay for an example of the ways that lawyers will sometimes stretch themselves to find a connection.

This lawsuit might be much more simple. No robots. No babies. If you didn't know anything about this print advetisment, would you quickly associate the featured woman as being Kim Kardashian? If so, was it intentional?

Justin Bieber: 'With Time Off, I'm Able to Think, Pray and Grow Up' (Exclusive)

Justin Bieber has seen more than his share of firsts in the last couple of years: he was the first artist to hit half a billion views on YouTube, the first -- and youngest -- performer to chart seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100, all from a debut album, and, most recently, the first male celebrity (who’s not a fashion designer) to release a woman’s perfume.

And like all things Bieber, Someday is on track to be the biggest fragrance launch ever, with sales topping $30 million, and a portion of the proceeds earmarked for two charities of Bieber’s choosing -- Pencils of Promise, founded by Adam Braun (brother of Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun) and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” Bieber tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I thought it would be successful because it’s a good smell, no matter what, but to be the number one fragrance? That’s amazing.” Indeed, according to Give Back Brands, which manufactured the scent, some of its partner retailers, which include Macy’s, Sephora and Lord & Taylor, are struggling to keep Someday in stock.

Equally incredible is how involved Bieber was in the production process of the fragrance. Give Back president Robert Hollander says he, for one, was thoroughly impressed: “Justin was incredibly hands-on. From the design of the bottle to the name, every decision that had to be made, he was involved in.”

And, of course, there was the scent itself. To come up with the “fruity gourmand” flavor, Bieber says he sampled other celebrity perfumes. “I tried Britney’s fragrance and a couple others, but I wanted to make something that was my own… I know what I like on a girl and I care more about what a female smells like than a man, so I didn’t really think it was right for me to do a cologne.” (Worth noting: he doesn't rule out a future men's scent.)

Besides, adds Bieber, the purpose of Someday was to give back. “When I was on tour last summer, I had Make-A-Wish in most cities,” he says. “For so many people, their wish was to meet me, and when they did, they were so hopeful and that’s a great feeling. I just wanted to help as many people as I could.”

As for Pencils of Promise, Bieber takes great pride in mobilizing his fanbase to make even the smallest of donations, as the charity’s name encourages. “It’s about encouraging young people to help other young people,” he says. “I try to motivate my fans to make a difference as much as they can.”

The directive clearly worked on June 23, when Bieber introduced Someday at Macy’s Herald Square in New York to crowds that numbered in the hundreds. “I’m old enough to remember The Beatles in Shea Stadium and I got the same feeling that day,” says Give Back’s Hollander. “The noise was deafening.”

The team considered holding the launch in Times Square, but Hollander says they opted for a more intimate event “so that people could really get a chance to see Justin.” Still, Hollander assures, "There was an enormous amount of security."

So when will fans see Bieber next? The 17-year-old is soon to start work on his second full-length studio album, the follow-up to 2010’s My World 2.0, but for now, Bieber is taking a breather (when he’s not crashing weddings with his girlfriend Selena Gomez). “I’ve been working so hard, I’m taking a month off,” he says. “It’s been great to just think and enjoy hanging out with my friends. I’m still growing up, and when you’re working every day, you don’t really get a chance to figure out who you are. So with the time off, I’m able to think, pray and just kind of grow up.”

And rest? “For sure," he says. "I’ve been sleeping in a lot.”

Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger Release a Joint Statement About Their Injured Son

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver The duo, who are in the process of divorcing, present a united front after son Christopher's surfing accident.

After news broke Friday that Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Christopher suffered injuries from a serious surfing accident last weekend, the former couple, who are in the midst of a divorce, presented a united front in a joint statement given to The Hollywood Reporter.

"A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach," said the pair. "While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends."

The 13-year-old boy, who was surfing in Malibu, slammed his face into an object on the beach and was initially thought to be in life-threatening condition according to reports.

But, his status has since improved and he is now expected to make a full recover say Shriver and Schwarzenegger.

"On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son," they  said in their statement to THR. "They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family."

Shriver filed for divorce from her husband of 25 years on July 1 after news broke that he'd fathered a child (born just one week after Christopher) with their housekeeper.

Better Homes and Gardens: Michelle Obama Is First Public Figure on Cover Since 1963

Michelle Obama The First Lady sits in a picnic table outside the White House and extols the virtues of healthy eating.

Michelle Obama appears on the August cover of Better Homes and Gardens, which hits stands this week -- making her the magazine's first public figure to be featured on a  cover since 1963. (Actor Cliff Robertson was the last, the Washington Post reports.)

STORY: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition': Michelle Obama to Guest Star on the ABC Reality Series

Obama wears a sundress and bright yellow cardigan, and poses in a picnic table on the White House grounds with veggies from her garden. She extols the importance of healthy eating, which has been one of her biggest causes since her husband, Barack, took office. She also offers advice to get kids to eat more fruits and vegetables.

PHOTOS: Actors Who've Played Politicians

“Last year, research with our readers showed this is  a really high priority moms have when it comes to healthy eating,” says Gayle Butler, the editor in chief  of Better Homes and Gardens, which is the third-largest magazine in paid circulation and the largest women's magazine.

Obama -- who has also posed on the cover of Vogue and Ebony -- is "thrilled to share the story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Let’s Move! with the millions of Americans who read Better Homes and Gardens," says her spokesperson Kristina Schake.

As the Post notes, the magazine is based in Iowa, an important campaign state -- and Michelle tracks 20 points ahead of her husband in the polls.
