With the announcement of Nike’s self-lacing Air Mag sneakers, Back to the Future fans responded in droves to voice their excitement and concerns regarding the new kicks.
The Late Show tweeted a teaser shot of Michael J. Fox in the guest seat holding up one of the 1,500 pairs to be released. According to a statement from Nike, the new shoe will benefit Parkinson’s research -- the autoimmune disease that Fox suffers from.

“The 2011 NIKE MAG shoe was designed to be a precise replica of the original Back to the Future II. The aesthetic is an exact match, down to the contours of the upper, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent NIKE in the strap,” the release stated.
“Forget Rick Perry, this is what makes the USA great, the “Nike McFly” and money raised goes to Parkinson’s research,” tweeted Paul J.
“Nike is going to put out the Marty McFly Nike Air Mags. So you too can look cool while you make out with your future mom,” joked Pauly Casillas.
“Only the coolest kids will have #BackToTheFutureShoes,” wrote Reid Barber.
"Nike only auctioning off 1500 pairs of Nike Air Mags....and I'm sure High Pitch Erik will somehow finagle a pair," said J.D. Harmeyer of the Howard Stern Show.
“If Nike has committed to making the sneakers from Back to the Future II, I'm just saying they should also be prepared to make hoverboards,” noted MacWorld editor Dan Moren.
Among concerned fans, Kameron wrote, “I appreciate what Nike is doing by donating the MAG proceeds to Michael J. Fox's charity, but the distribution of the shoe was poorly handled.”
“Nike Air Mag is a disappointment,” posted Mitch Haile. “Maybe in a few more years...”
