Angel Food Awards Honor 'Glee' Producer

Project Angel Food One - P 2011The event, held by organization Project Angel Food, honored author Lisa Lillien and 'Glee’s' Dante Di Loreto for their commitment to the food delivery program for the homeless.

Project Angel Food, the food delivery program for the ill and homebound, honored Hungry Girl author Lisa Lillien and Glee producer Dante Di Loreto for their commitment to the organization on Aug. 20. The two-decade-old charity enlists volunteers and staff to cook meals for people with life-threatening illnesses, which are delivered to more than 13,000 people in Los Angeles.

The awards — held at Project Angel Food headquarters in Hollywood — featured performances from finalists on hit Oxygen show, The Glee Project, and a home grown dinner for 400 active volunteers and L.A. tastemakers. Previous recipients include Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor and Jessica Lange (who was a presenter at this year’s show).

While Maura Tierney kicked evening off with a 20k phone donation towards the purchase of a van for the organization, the celebration continued as The Office's Leslie David Barker enjoyed the silent auction, and Nickelodeon's latest stars Ariana Grande and Jeanette McCurdy drank virgin "glee-tini's. The organization's CEO, Margaret Steele, summed up the event as "filled with love."

With ink not even dry on a contract with Lifetime for her new show, The Client List, Jennifer Love Hewitt was thrilled to talk about her new gig--she plays a housewife who turns to prostitution in order to keep her home out of foreclosure. "I’m so excited to be at a place [that's] ready to do unapologetic television. This will be a show that will allow them to be that, especially with the subject matter. And, I think we’ll get some guys to come over and watch because there will be lingerie in every episode, it should be good."

Honoree Di Loreto talked up his next project, the FX TV series American Horror Story, starring Lange, but wouldn’t divulge details. "You may have to watch it with a pause button because you may have to stop and catch your breath," he said. "We get to do some nasty things on cable! We get to show people’s butts and people can talk the way they really talk.”

Industry board members of the organization include Darren Star,  Dreamworks’ Chip Sullivan, entertainment business manager John McIlwee, Center Theater Group managing editor Edward Rada, and NCIS’ Pauley Perrette.
