Prince William Kate Middleton Visit Skid Row Los Angeles 2011

Just hours after meeting with some of the most powerful people in Hollywood at a black-tie affair, Prince William and Kate Middleton made a visit to Los Angeles' Skid Row on Sunday.

The couple -- now officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge -- visited the Inner City Arts academy, where they were greeted by six elementary students holding a welcome sign. Also there to welcome the couple was a crowd of 150 people, some waving British and American flags, according to the Associated press.

During the visit, school president and CEO Cynthia Harnisch met with the couple to talk about Skid Row and the poverty and homelessness that many of the students face.

The duke and duchess also met with several children working on art projects. They donned art smocks and sat at easels as a group of fifth-graders helped them create mandalas, a type of Buddhis painting, and also visited with a group of children in a ceramics studio working on a giant tortoise, which will be placed in the school's cactus garden.

During the visit, Middleton was wearing a cream-colored pleated skirt with a black lace top and black high heels.

The stop comes just hours after the couple met with a slew of industry-ites Saturday night at the inaugural black-tie BAFTA Brits to Watch at downtown L.A.'s Belasco Theater.

The royal support was to "spotlight the depth and range of young British talent" with 42 youthful creatives chosen to attend.
